This ready-made adventure brings you to some of the most iconic, deep-turquoise waters of the Rockies. We combine 3 of Banff's favourite lakes with a 5km hike around Emerald Lake just across the British Columbia border.
 

Introduction

The ideal day for those who want to see the "Big Hits" of the Icefields Parkway and the Lake Louise corridor without the passive feel of a standard bus tour. We structure the day around a series of high-impact stops, anchored with a 5.2km hike around the Emerald Lake loop. This allows us to balance some of Banff's biggest draws with the quieter, physical immersion that makes the mountains feel real.


What to Expect - Itinerary & Experience:


Stop 1: Icefields Parkway, with stops at Peyto Lake & Bow Lake (Banff, AB)

  • The Activity: We start at the highest, most distant points of the drive along the Icefields Parkway to beat the midday crowds. First, a short walk leads to the Peyto Lake overlook, followed by a brief stop at Bow Lake, from which we can see the Crowfoot Glacier.

Stop 2: Emerald Lake (Yoho, BC) – our active anchor

  • The Activity: Conditions permitting, a 5.2km (3.2-mile) hike along the shoreline loop (Difficulty: Easy, mostly flat). Our goal is to experience the "Jewel of Yoho" through active discovery, not just from the bridge next to the parking lot.

Stop 3: Natural Bridge (Yoho, BC)

  • The Activity: A brief stop to observe the power of the Kicking Horse River as it carves through solid limestone.

Stop 4: Lake Louise (Banff, AB)

  • The Activity: A visit to the most iconic basin in the range. We’ll move along the shoreline to reach the quieter vantage points of the lake and mountains, offering a better perspective of the Victoria Glacier and castle-like Fairmont Chateau alike during a 60-75 minute stop. Includes an optional brief pitstop at Lake Louise Village.

Stop 5: The Return – via the Bow Valley Parkway (Banff, AB)

  • The Activity: We transition to the Bow Valley Parkway, which runs parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway 1, for part of the leg back toward Banff. This route is much quieter and more relaxed, offering a different perspective of the valley and more frequent wildlife sightings. Note: certain sections are subject to seasonal closures for wildlife and to create a vehicle-free experience for cyclists; during these times, we utilize the most scenic accessible portions of the route.


Premium Transit: Relax in the exclusive comfort of our vehicle while your guide handles all navigation, storytelling, and park logistics.

Lunch: We pause at a scenic vantage point for a fresh mid-day refuel. Field lunches are prepared by a local deli partner the morning of your tour (see FAQ for more details).

  • Itinerary Note: Routes and destinations may vary based on participant preferences, fitness levels, real-time mountain conditions, and safety. During the winter season, the Emerald Lake hiking route is subject to local snow and avalanche conditions. Depending on the day's safety assessment, we will enjoy either a full lake loop or an out-and-back trail along the southern and eastern shores. Snowshoes are provided should the conditions require them.

      Accessibility & Physical Requirements
        • Physical Level: Easy-Moderate.
        • Wheelchair Access: Please note our transport vehicle is not wheelchair accessible .
        • Health: Not recommended for those with serious medical conditions that prevent light physical activity.
        • Pets: Service animals are welcome. Pets considered case-by-case and are subject to approval and an additional pet fee.
        What to Bring

          Clothing & Footwear:

          • Shoes: Comfortable hiking boots (recommended) or trail-appropriate walking shoes. Waterproof footwear is recommended.
          • Layers: Clothing fit for an active day, including adaptable layers. Weather in the Rockies is famously variable; being able to "layer up or down" is key to staying comfortable.
          • Pro Tip: Avoid Cotton. Cotton traps moisture and loses all insulating properties when damp, which can lead to rapid chilling. For your comfort and safety, we recommend moisture-wicking base layers made of merino wool or synthetic active-wear.

          Hydration & Personal Gear:

          • Water: Plenty of water for an active day. We provide chilled refills in the van - please bring your own reusable bottle(s).
          • Sun Protection: Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen (even in winter).
          • For Photos: A fully-charged camera or smartphone.
          • Specialized Gear: We provide hiking poles and microspikes/ice cleats - no need to bring your own unless you prefer them.

          For Winter:

          • The Essentials: Insulated gloves, thick wool socks, a warm toque/beanie, and additional warm layers.
          • Footwear: Insulated, waterproof hiking boots are strongly recommended.
