Our Story

MOLARI is a locally owned, family-run business based in Calgary, Alberta. We provide premium, activity-based experiences for nature-loving travellers seeking an immersive and personalized way to explore the breathtaking Canadian Rockies.

Officially established in 2025, the origins of MOLARI are rooted in a 15-year journey characterized by a drive to explore and a passion for discovering what lies beyond the comfort zone.

Russell and Rosie met in Hong Kong on the eve of the Covid-19 pandemic and spent the next three years getting to know the territory better than they ever could have imagined. Navigating some of the world's strictest travel restrictions taught us to never take what's on our doorstep for granted. We brought this mindset with us to Canada, feeling incredibly fortunate to now have the Rockies as our backyard.

At MOLARI, we design our excursions with the same passion we’ve poured into our own time on the trails, aiming to share the wonder and depth of this ever-changing landscape with every guest. We understand that the "best of the Rockies" looks different for everyone, and this belief underpins our approach to each group. Our goal is simple: to exceed expectations and deliver the highlight of your trip, every time.

We appreciate that you have a choice when it comes to exploring these mountains. From our family to yours, thank you for considering MOLARI.

The MOLARI Family

Russell

Founder & Lead Guide

Russell has led a diverse career across East Asia, the UK, and South America, working with organizations of all sizes within the travel and international education industries. MOLARI is the second company he has founded.

A lifelong explorer, his most memorable journeys include spending Christmas in Tibet, a month exploring Sicily, scooting through Western Xinjiang, hiking in Patagonia and to Macchu Pichu, and the magic of the Colombrazilian Amazon.

Russell is an IGA-certified four-season hiking guide, and holds a 50-hour wilderness first aid qualification.

Fun Fact: Russell speaks English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese.

Rosie

Basecamp Manager

Rosie's background is in healthcare, community work, and international research. Originally trained as a registered midwife, she has spent over a decade working in the UK and Hong Kong, alongside volunteering with grassroots community organizations in Kenya and Sri Lanka.

She now supports MOLARI’s operations and guest experiences, helping every journey run seamlessly from first enquiry to final farewell.

A keen traveller and nature-lover, Rosie is happiest in the mountains, on a long road trip, or exploring new places with her family.

Fun Fact: Rosie played competitive cricket for many years back in the UK.

Jake

Head of Backyard Exploration

Jake made his way to Calgary, and our hearts, after being rescued by the Central Alberta Humane Society in Red Deer.

His zest for life and adventure, coupled with his unrelenting stamina on the trails, are an inspiration to us every day - especially after having endured such a challenging start to his life.

Though Jake does not join on tour days, he's always there to lead the pack when we're out doing our new trail research and homework.

Fun Fact: It came as a surprise to us that according to his DNA test results, Jake is part Alaskan Malamute and St. Bernard!
