Private From Banff/Canmore | Moraine Lake, Lake Louise & Minnewanka Tour (Multi-Stop)

8 hours

A private, multi-stop journey through the heart of Banff National Park, from the historic 'ghost town' of Bankhead to the vivid turquoise waters of Moraine Lake & Lake Louise. Experience a diverse mix of history, lakeshore trails, and the iconic Rockpile.

Introduction

Experience a comprehensive look at Banff National Park’s most legendary landscapes and a taste of its hidden industrial past. This guided adventure spans from the wind-swept shores of Lake Minnewanka to the towering peaks surrounding Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, offering a day of relentless natural beauty defined by grand scale and spectacular colours.

What to Expect - Itinerary & Experience:

Stop 1: Upper & Lower Bankhead

  • The Activity: We start the day with a brief 1km walk through the remnants of an early 20th-century coal mining operation, offering a gritty, historical "ghost town" contrast to the natural beauty that follows.
  • Duration: 20–30 mins.

Stop 2: Lake Minnewanka & Two Jack Lake

  • The Activity: At Minnewanka, we'll move past the parking lot adjacent crowds and walk along the lakeshore to the Stewart Canyon bridge – a flat, 3.2km in-and-out trail. This gives us an open, wind-swept perspective of Banff National Park's largest glacial lake before the midday heat. We then pass by Two Jack Lake to complete the Minnewanka Scenic Drive on our way to Lake Louise.
  • Duration: 1–1.5 hours.

Stop 3: Lake Louise

  • The Activity: A visit to the most iconic basin in the range. We’ll move along the shoreline to reach the quieter vantage points of the lake and surrounding peaks, offering a better perspective of the Victoria Glacier and castle-like Fairmont Chateau. The in-and-out lakeshore trail is up to 4.6km in length, with nominal elevation gain.
  • Duration: 1–1.5 hours.

Stop 4: Moraine Lake

  • The Activity: At Moraine Lake, we combine a 2.5km in-and-out lakeshore walk with a short climb (350m each way) up "the Rockpile" for the best views of the stunning turquoise-blue lake and surrounding Ten Peaks – one of the most prized sights in all of Canada. We then have an optional brief pitstop at Lake Louise Village on our way back towards Banff town.
  • Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
  • Note: Because Moraine Lake Road is closed to all vehicles during the winter season (and to private, non-commercial vehicles year-round), this stop is only available between June and mid-October. Our van has the necessary permits for direct access during this window, so there is no need to change to a different shuttle.

The Return – via the Bow Valley Parkway

  • The Activity: We transition to the Bow Valley Parkway for part of the leg back toward Banff. A quieter and more relaxed alternative to the Trans-Canada Highway, this route offers a different perspective of the valley and more frequent wildlife sightings. Note: certain sections are subject to seasonal closures for wildlife and to create a vehicle free experience for cyclists; during these times, we utilize the most scenic accessible portions of the route.

Premium Transit: Relax in the exclusive comfort of our vehicle while your guide handles all navigation, storytelling, and park logistics.

Lunch: We pause at a scenic vantage point for a midday picnic, providing a locally-sourced grazing spread of premium charcuterie, cheeses, and seasonal accompaniments (please check our FAQ for additional, important details).

        What to Bring

          Clothing & Footwear:

          • Shoes: Comfortable hiking boots (strongly recommended, especially in winter) or trail-appropriate walking shoes. Waterproof footwear is recommended.
          • Layers: Clothing fit for an active day, including adaptable layers. Weather in the Rockies is famously variable; being able to "layer up or down" is key to staying comfortable.
          • Pro Tip: Avoid Cotton. Cotton traps moisture and loses all insulating properties when damp, which can lead to rapid chilling. For your comfort and safety, we recommend moisture-wicking base layers made of merino wool or synthetic active-wear.

          Hydration, Food & Personal Gear:

          • Backpack: Please bring a small daypack to store your layers, water, and gear. This ensures you're prepared for changing conditions while keeping your hands free to use poles while we're hiking/walking.
          • Water: Plenty of water for an active day. We provide refills in the van - please bring your own reusable bottle(s).
          • Lunch and Snacks: We provide lunch (see FAQ for details), and a selection of light snacks is available in the van. However, we always recommend bringing along any personal favourites (like a specific energy bar or fruit) to keep your energy up throughout the day.
          • Sun Protection: Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen (even in winter).
          • For Photos & Devices: A fully-charged camera or smartphone, and a USB-A charging cable if available (USB-A charging ports are available in the van).
          • Specialized Gear: We provide hiking poles and microspikes/ice cleats/snowshoes - no need to bring your own unless you prefer them.

          If Winter Conditions:

          • The Essentials: Insulated gloves, thick wool socks, a warm toque/beanie, moisture-wicking wool or synthetic base layers (upper and lower body; avoid cotton ), and additional warm layers (including a warm, weatherproof outer layer for wind/snow/rain protection).
          • Footwear: Insulated hiking boots are essential (waterproof strongly recommended).
