The Glaciers & Lakes: Icefields Parkway, Moraine & Louise

8 hours

From the brilliant blues of Moraine Lake and Lake Louise to the glacial flows of Peyto & Bow along the Icefields Parkway. Available Jun–Oct only.

Overview

A blockbuster day from start to finish, including a 40km stretch along the spectacular Icefields Parkway. This journey covers a lot of ground, but with a flexible itinerary, gourmet picnic lunch, and door-to-door transport, we make it more than comfortable. Let us take care of the logistics and the driving, while you simply enjoy some of the world's most celebrated landscapes at your own pace.

Experience Highlights

  • Peyto Lake: Walk a short wooded path (150m) from the commercial parking lot to the viewing platform for sweeping, elevated views of one of the Rockies' most strikingly vivid sights.
  • Bow Lake & The Crowfoot Glacier: Explore the shoreline and dip a hand in the crystal clear waters of Bow Lake beneath an awesome backdrop of peaks, glaciers and falls.
  • Moraine Lake: Revel in the scale and magic of Moraine Lake and the Ten Peaks from the top of the Rockpile trail (350m each way). Time permitting, this can be combined with a stroll along the tree-lined lakeshore trail (up to 2.5km return), to give a dual perspective of the lake's beauty.
  • Lake Louise: Experience the range's most famous alpine basin. We’ll guide you beyond the busy central shoreline to quieter vantage points offering uninterrupted views of the Victoria Glacier, Mount Fairview, and historic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
  • Bow Valley Parkway Drive: Time permitting, we'll take the Bow Valley Parkway for part of the day's driving between Banff and Lake Louise. A quieter and more relaxed alternative to the Trans-Canada Highway, this scenic route offers a different perspective of the valley and more frequent wildlife sightings. (Subject to seasonal conservation/cycling closures).
  • Private, Door-to-Door Transport: Carefully cleaned after every journey, our van comes equipped with remote-start climate control, charging ports, snacks, water refills, and four-season comforts.
  • Picnic Lunch Included: Refuel with a locally-sourced grazing spread of premium charcuterie, cheeses, and seasonal accompaniments at a carefully scouted picnic spot (please check our FAQ for additional, important details).

        What to Bring

          Clothing & Footwear:

          • Footwear: Comfortable hiking boots (ideal) or trail-appropriate walking shoes are essential. We recommend waterproof footwear to ensure you stay dry and comfortable regardless of the terrain or trail conditions.
          • Layers: Clothing fit for an active day, including versatile layers. The weather in the Canadian Rockies is famously variable; being able to "layer up or down" is key to staying comfortable. A wind and rain-resistant outer layer is recommended year-round.
          • Spare base layer: Bring an extra base layer to change into for the return journey. It’s a simple way to stay fresh and comfortable after an active day (especially in summer).
          • Pro Tip: Avoid Cotton. Cotton traps moisture and loses all insulating properties when damp, which can lead to rapid chilling. For your comfort and safety, we recommend moisture-wicking base layers made of merino wool or synthetic active-wear.

          Hydration, Food & Personal Gear:

          • Backpack: Please bring a small daypack to store your layers, water, and gear. This ensures you're prepared for changing conditions while keeping your hands free to use poles while we're hiking/walking.
          • Water: Plenty of water for an active day. We provide refills in the van - please bring your own reusable bottle(s).
          • Lunch and Snacks: We provide lunch (see FAQ for details), and a selection of light snacks is available in the van. However, we always recommend bringing along any personal favourites (like a specific energy bar or fruit) to keep your energy up throughout the day.
          • Sun Protection: Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen (even in winter).
          • For Photos & Devices: A fully-charged camera or smartphone, and a USB-A charging cable if available (USB-A charging ports are available in the van).
          • Specialized Gear: We provide hiking poles and microspikes/ice cleats/snowshoes - no need to bring your own unless you prefer them.

          For Winter Conditions:

          • The Essentials: Insulated gloves, thick wool socks, a warm toque/beanie, moisture-wicking wool or synthetic base layers (upper and lower body; avoid cotton ), and additional warm layers (including a warm, weatherproof outer layer for wind/snow/rain protection).
          • Footwear: Insulated hiking boots are essential (waterproof strongly recommended).
